I am a health & science writer with 20 years’ experience in journalism, including 12 at the Daily Mail.

 

As the Mail’s science editor, I covered everything from Tim Peake’s travels in space to the world’s first womb transplant.

 

I have a keen news sense, thrive on deadlines and like nothing more than wading through complex material to spot the story, dissect it and bring it to life for the general reader.

 

But health and science don’t always have to be serious and I am equally at home employing a lighter touch.

 

I have taken part in media training sessions for scientists provided by the Science Media Centre and the charity Sense About Science and judged science writing prizes for the Institute of Cancer Research and the Royal Society.

I also spent two years in the press office of UCLH, one of Britain’s biggest hospitals, where I honed my skills in PR, internal communications and corporate writing.

I have a degree in medical microbiology from Edinburgh University and a postgraduate diploma in journalism from Cardiff University.
